Edwin Porter Thompson : papers, 1833-1915.

Papers include correspondence, 1872-1902, records of the Sixth Regiment of the First Kentucky Brigade, the Orphan Brigade, Breckinridge's Division, Army of the Mississippi, 1861-1865; Civil War letters written from Ky. to soldiers in the Confederate army in 1864; manuscript of "Our literary journal," published by the Harrisburg Thespian Society, 1872-1873; names of students attending Owen College, Harrisburg, Ky., 1876-1877, and records of attendance; four volumes of Thompson's writings, including a biography of Ulysses S. Grant, articles on the battles of Shiloh and Stones River, stories, plays, and verse; and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about U.S. Grant and Thompson's unsuccessful candidacy for the office of superintendent of public instruction in 1887. Also included are papers, 1833-1844, of Lewis Morgan Thompson, Edwin's father, consisting of tax receipts and store accounts of the Barren County resident; and papers, 1888-1915, of the Reverend Lewis N. Thompson, Edwin's son, consisting of a diary, 1888-1894, and letters regarding family history, the Reverend Lewis Craig, and the Craig family.
